Youth-focused AOD Practices (March/April 2017)

We're inviting workers who are supporting young people living in Out of Home Care (OoHC).

Participants will learn why young people use drugs, how they are using them, and how to reduce harms while engaging in constructive conversations around drug use.

Learning outcomes

  • Understanding drugs and their effects / Patterns of adolescent drug use / trends in OoHC
  • Understanding the function of substance use
  • Responding to intoxication and challenging presentations
  • Applying harm reduction strategies
  • Engaging young people in constructive conversations about drug use
  • Working with stages of change
  • Creating individualised AOD Management Plans
  • Integrating policy and legal factors
  • Increase worker resilience – strategies for reflection and self-care
  • Accessing the Youth AOD service system

To experience the full course content, it is essential to attend both day 1 and 2.

Each day runs from 10:00AM to 3:00PM.
